In Catalan “El Gat Negre” was a very famous cabaret in Montmartre. It was one of the meeting places of all of Paris, and a symbol of bohemia of the late 19th century. It served as inspiration for the cabaret brewery called “Els Quatre Gats” in Barcelona, which was one of the main centers of the Modernist movement.
The work that we present to you is a poster that announced a tour to other cities of the company of cabaret entertainers of Le Chat Noir, created by Théophile Steinlen. Steinlen (1859-1923), was a Fanco-Swiss modernist painter and lithographer.
