Van Gogh (1853 – 1890) was one of the forerunners of post-impressionism, but he was never successful in his lifetime. He only sold one painting to an acquaintance while he was a painter. The Starry Night is a work created from the views he had from the room in the asylum where he entered due to a mental health crisis.
